Hornby Island Blues Workshop

Suzie Vinnick has always been a tremendous supporter of past Hornby Blues Workshops and was one of the first musicians who helped to shape the national profile of the Workshop itself. Suzie’s career has seen triumph after triumph. Suzie, of course, is a well pedigreed award -winner with eleven Maple Blues awards, numerous Canadian Folk Music Awards and Juno nominations. But as our Workshop instructor, whether it be in voice, songwriting or bass, she brings so much more than award accolades to the table. In fact, her guitar work also could easily be a teaching tool for her at our Workshop as she is a complete musician. But it is her passion for music that make her a valuable asset to our camp. No doubt it is her past experiences, whether they be as a finalist in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, or her CBC Saturday Night Blues Great Canadian Blues Award, that give her the expanded appreciation of how hard work and practise elevate performance. None of this is lost on the students who have attended her Workshop classes throughout the years. They would testify that her presence as a performer and as a teacher leave lasting impressions. Her experiences as a musician has placed her in rarefied company in the Canadian blues scene and we are fortunate to have her return in our 25th Hornby Workshop year.
